University of Virginia Director, Pre-Arrival & Financial Clearance in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Director of Pre-Arrival & Financial Clearance is the first line management support for the Administrator of Patient Access for all departmental activities including those outside the purview of this role. The Director is the strategic business and operational lead for Pre-Arrival & Financial Clearance responsible for designing leading administering and coordinating many high impact pre-service Health System patient access functions for the University of Virginia Medical Center related entities and the University Physicians Group. Functions included under the purview of the Director will include but not be limited to pre-certification/authorization insurance verification and benefits patient service price estimation pre-service cash collections and insurance referrals. The Director will also closely align processes people and technology in support of the scheduling pods and will implement a service model that supports timely financial clearance of patients. This will require collaboration with the Administrator and Pod Managers of Patient Friendly Access as well as billing Patient Access front-end operations and other functions closely tied to achieving optimal patient financial outcomes for the MC and UPG. The Director is accountable for improving the organization’s financial performance and is a critically important member of the Revenue Cycle Operations Group. To accomplish the above the director is expected to create and nurture a culture of continuous performance improvement. This culture will be measured monitored and improved using performance management techniques grounded in data and metrics and relationship collaboration. This role in addition to reporting to the Administrator of Patient Access will also have oversight from the Administrator of Patient Financial Services for operational responsibilities that are closely aligned.

  • Pre-Arrival Operations Management

  • Works with Revenue Cycle Clinical and Scheduling.

  • leadership to assess implement and design all front end processes related to Pre-Arrival and financial clearance services. This includes all aspects of the process staffing work flow and operations.

  • Oversees all pre-arrival activities in the following functional areas.

  • Handoff from scheduling to the Pre-Arrival Unit

  • Insurance eligibility and benefits verification

  • Referral management

  • Prior authorization management

  • Patient portion estimation

  • Pre-service collections and related cash control procedures

  • Communication with internal and external customers.

  • Works with constituents to improve quality of scheduling information and clinical documentation to support ordered services.

  • Oversees all procedures and workflows in the PAU to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring operations services and programs and physical properties and initiating changes where required.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $104,894.40 - $167,835.20 Annual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree must be obtained within 4 years of hire or transfer.

Experience: 10 years of healthcare PFS/finance experience and/or admitting/patient access experience required. 5 years of management experience in a large academic medical center or equivalent environment of exposure to complex healthcare organizations required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
