University of Virginia Lecturer in Drama in Charlottesville, Virginia

The University of Virginia Department of Drama seeks applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer in Acting. This one-year appointment is eligible for renewal. Responsibilities will include teaching three courses per semester in Acting, Public Speaking, and other areas of performance depending on specialization.

We seek candidates with expertise in progressive pedagogical practices who will prioritize the creation of inclusive learning environments. Applicants should have practical experience of anti-racist, decolonizing, and/or culturally responsive teaching and performance, and a demonstrated commitment to serving students and audiences of the global majority. We especially welcome candidates with experience in performance traditions of the Global South; Asian/Pacific Islander, Latine, Indigenous, Black performance traditions; queer/trans performance practices; performance and disability; and/or theatre for social change.

Our department offers wide-ranging curricula in a liberal arts setting, emphasizing collaboration, social engagement, the integration of theory and practice, and the development of theatre as artistic expression and critical inquiry. Minimum Requirements

A terminal degree or Master's degree in theatre is required. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

A terminal degree in theatre or a related field, or equivalent professional experience preferred.

Experience in teaching acting at the university level to students of varied experience.
