University of Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) - PreOp/Postop/23-hr Observation PeriAnesthesia Main Nights in Charlottesville, Virginia

Seeking capable clinician, focused on expanding knowledge and skills for nightshift preoperative and postoperative PeriAnesthesia patient populations. Consistently provides effective direct care, as part of the interdisciplinary team, to a variety of complex patients. Manages care and implements treatment plans at a refined skill level in collaboration with patients, their families, physicians and other members of the health care team. Seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice. Assumes a beginning leadership role but seeks mentoring in this process.

The PeriAnesthesia Care Unit provides patient-centered care to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients in the main hospital of all ages, genders, geographic locations, and walks of life that will undergo a procedure that will involve the use of anesthesia. PeriAnesthesia care involves the assessment, diagnosis, intervention and evaluation of perceived, actual, or potential physical or psychosocial problems that may result from the administration of sedation/analgesic and anesthetic agents and techniques.

Preoperatively, this service area prepares patients/families for procedures that require anesthesia and provides patients an opportunity to meet with their anesthesiology and surgical team(s) to ask questions prior to surgery. Nurses work with providers, patients, and families to identify barriers and provide early intervention to ensure positive outcomes.

Postoperatively, care is provided based on patient acuity and disposition. Advocating for patients at their most vulnerable requires our nurses to be expert clinicians with excellent critical-thinking and communication skills. Post-anesthesia nurses are capable of making intelligent, independent decisions and initiating appropriate action as necessary. Our nurses are committed to providing high-quality, individualized patient care, while maintaining flexibility to coordinate care by various health-team members.

Same day discharge and Extended Stay (23 hours) after procedures include meeting surgery-specific milestones, discharge education, and coordination of outpatient services (pharmacy, DME, etc). The ability for PeriAnesthesia nurses to provide specialized post-surgical care allows for continuity of care and a positive patient experience.

Responsible for providing and coordinating interdisciplinary patient care utilizing the nursing process.

Position Compensation Range: $39.90 - $53.00 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of accredited nursing program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Certification: American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Post-hire American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider ACLS certification required..

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, and frequently bending/stooping/traveling, Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull > 100lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, cold, heat, noise, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
